Unitrunk Case Study

At start solar, we specialise in transforming businesses through innovative renewable energy solutions. Our partnership with Unitrunk, a leader in cable management systems, exemplifies our commitment to delivering high-quality, cost-effective solar power installations. We successfully designed and installed a 50kW Solar PV system at Unitrunk’s Northern Ireland facility, enabling them to reduce energy costs, lower their carbon footprint, and take a significant step toward achieving long-term sustainability.
Unitrunk - 50kW
Unitrunk, with a rich history spanning over 50 years, began as a family-run engineering company. They have since grown into a global leader in cable management systems. In 1984, Unitrunk expanded into manufacturing Cable Management Systems, and by 2000, they had strengthened their international presence with the strategic acquisition of Vantrunk in Runcorn. When Unitrunk decided to invest in solar energy to power their operations, they chose start solar to bring their vision to life.

The 50kW Solar PV Installation

Unitrunk’s commitment to sustainability led to the installation of a 50kW Solar PV system at their offices and production facility in Northern Ireland. The system we provided includes a 50kW SMA inverter, renowned for its German engineering and reliability, coupled with 125 Jinko Solar panels, each with a capacity of 400 watts. At the time of installation, these were the highest wattage panels deployed in Northern Ireland, ensuring maximum energy generation and efficiency.

This Solar PV system is designed to produce over 41,975kWh of electricity annually for at least 25 years. Using the power of the sun, Unitrunk is now able to significantly reduce their dependence on traditional energy sources, contributing to both their financial savings and environmental goals.

Financial and Environmental Benefits

The installation of the 50kW Solar PV system represents a substantial financial advantage for Unitrunk. Over the system’s lifespan, it is expected to save the company approximately £140,000. The return on investment (ROI) is projected to be under 5.5 years, after which Unitrunk will benefit from just under 20 years of free electricity, all while still being covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

From an environmental perspective, the system aligns with Unitrunk’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and moving towards more sustainable operations. The clean energy generated by this installation contributes to a greener planet, helping Unitrunk reduce their impact on the environment.

The successful implementation of the 50kW Solar PV system is just the beginning of our partnership with Unitrunk. Looking ahead, Unitrunk, in collaboration with start solar, plans to expand their solar PV system to further reduce their electricity costs and move closer to achieving net zero emissions. This future expansion will amplify the benefits of solar energy and solidify Unitrunk’s position as a forward-thinking company
committed to sustainability.
